Treatment Resistant Depression

This lecture will focus on new developments in psychiatry which help patients with treatment-resistant depression. We will discuss new antidepressants especially ketamine; neuromodulation, i.e.repetitive, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and the use of pharmacogenomics in making treatment decisions.
Learning Objectives:
1. Develop knowledge regarding advances in psychopharmacology, and be able to make appropriate referrals based on that knowledge.
2. Learn about the use of ketamine in clinical practice and compare it to previous antidepressants..
3. Assess the utility of neurostimulatory approaches in treating depression.
4. Predict which pharmacogenic agents are most likely to be effective in treating individual patients based in pharmacogenomics
This program is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and graduate students. It will be presented at an intermediate level, meant for those with some prior knowledge of the subject matter. The presenter does not have any commercial support and/ or conflict for interest for this program.
