Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)

 Brooke Donald, PsyD

 Dr. Brooke. Donald, PsyD is a licensed psychologist with a subspecialty in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia.  She completed the advanced training in CBT-I at UPENN with Dr. Perlis and Dr. Posner. 

 Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is a structured, evidence-based treatment.  The goal of CBT-I is to identify and replace thoughts and behaviors that cause or exacerbate sleep problems with habits that promote sound sleep.  CBT-I  helps overcome the underlying causes of sleep problems. 

Learning Objectives:

1.  Describe the basic principles of CBT-I.

2.  Learn the assessment component of CBT-I. 

3.  Describe the basic techniques of CBT-I  (Stimulus control therapy, sleep restriction, sleep hygeine.)

4.  Describe the exclusionary criteria for CBT-I.

5.  Review a case study to enhance learning objectives.  


This program is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and graduate students. It will be presented at an intermediate level, meant for those with some prior knowledge of the subject matter. The presenter does not have any commercial support and/ or conflict of interest for this program.
