Recent Developments in Pharmacotherapy for Depression

Kacy Richmond, MD
Dr. Richmond is a board-certified adult psychiatrist practicing in Morristown, NJ with Pegasus Psychiatric Associates. She completed her psychiatry residency training at the University of New Mexico. She graduated from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Haverford College. She has a master’s degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Wyoming, was a Fulbright Scholar in Chile, and is fluent in Spanish. She also worked in a psychiatric hospital in Auckland New Zealand for one year as part of her residency training. Her interests include cross cultural psychiatry and the expressive arts in psychiatry.
This talk will cover treatments for unipolar and bipolar depression approved by the FDA within the last 5 years, including Auvelity (2022), Caplyta (2021), Spravato (2019), Zulresso (2019), Vraylar (2019) and Latuda (2018) and barriers to access in New Jersey. We will also discuss why new is not always better, the role of genetic testing, and experimental treatments for depression.
Learning Objectives:
1. Develop knowledge regarding new treatments for unipolar and bipolar depression.
2. Learn about the barriers to access of new treatments.
3. Understand the role of genetic testing in depression.
This program is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and graduate students. It will be presented at an intermediate level, meant for those with some prior knowledge of the subject matter. The presenter does not have any commercial support and/ or conflict of interest for this program.
