Old and New Ethical Dilemmas for Psychologists

THIS PROGRAM WILL BE OFFERED IN-PERSON ONLY
Drs. Abrams, Conerty, Conway, and Wall are members of the NJPA Ethics Committee, and all four are in private practice. In addition, Dr. Abrams is director of Resolve Community Counseling Center; Dr. Conerty treats adults with depression/trauma; Dr. Conway is co-founder of North Jersey Psychological Associates; and Dr. Wall specializes in Forensics.
The ethics committee consults on a wide variety of topics brought to them by practitioners. In this workshop, they will be leading discussion on a variety of potential vignettes such as: 1) When a clinician’s and client’s values clash; 2) Dealing with an impaired clinician; and 3) Maintaining confidentiality within the context of working with multiple family members and associated clinicians.
Learning Objectives - Participants will be able to:
1. Identify the specific dilemmas illustrated in each case presented.
2. Apply appropriate ethical principles to clarify the dilemmas in each case.
3. Critique possible solutions and develop a potential plan of action for each scenario.
This program is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and graduate students. It will be presented at an intermediate level, meant for those with some prior knowledge of the subject matter. The presenters receive no commercial support and report no conflicts of interest regarding this presentation.
