Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions for Health Anxiety

Jennifer Kennedy, PsyD
Dr. Kennedy is a NJ and NY licensed psychologist, PSYPACT certified, and also able to practice in Florida. She specializes in working with a diverse population diagnosed with anxiety and mood disorders. She practices at Stress and Anxiety Services of NJ, and specializes in CBT interventions for a variety of concerns including OCD, Panic, and BFRBs. She is BTTI certified.
This presentation will focus on empirically supported treatments for health anxiety. It will begin with an overview of health anxiety etiology, symptoms assessment, as well as case examples and interventions. It will also include how diversity factors might affect clinical presentation and treatment. It will include easily accessible assessments for practitioners functioning as individual therapists, as well as time for questions.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify, diagnose, and accurately assess health anxiety, as well as the DSM-5 disorders associated with this disorder.
2. Explain the core components of the cognitive-behavioral model of treating health anxiety.
3. Identify and apply a variety of CBT interventions that can be used in individual therapy to mitigate symptoms.
This program is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, physicians and graduate students. It will be presented at an intermediate level, meant for those with some prior knowledge of the subject matter. The presenter does not have any commercial support and/ or conflict of interest for this program.
